(The year of this 2nd marriage appears to be in error in that Harriet did not d. until 1881 and Harriet is in the household of John H. in the 1880 Federal Census for Oyster Bay, Queens, NY.) The 1900 US Census lists John married to Sophia. The 1920 US Census lists John H. Van Wicklen, head, age 82 (b. abt 1838, NY; both parents b. NY), mail carrier, with wife Gertrude? Brooklyn Eagle, February 26, 1886, page 4 reports the following story that appears to be about the George Van Wicklen above.

A Runaway Lover Caught - George Van Wicklen, of Lawrence (near Oyster Bay), who ran away over a week ago to avoid arrest for breach of promise preferred by Miss Shaw, of the same village, was arrested in this city yesterday and taken to Queens County. Counselor Mott, representing Miss Shaw, and the young man's father arranged a settlement on a money basis and the charge was abandoned.
